The Story and Inspiration Behind Fairy Orbs

Throughout history, people have been fascinated by mysterious points of light appearing in forests, meadows, marshes, and twilight landscapes. Across different cultures, these phenomena have been given many names, including fairy lights, will-o’-the-wisps, and ghost lights, and they have inspired generations of folklore, stories, and imagination.

Long before the modern understanding of many natural phenomena, people often explained mysterious lights through stories of spirits, fairies, or other supernatural beings. Fairy Orbs draws inspiration from this rich tradition of storytelling…not as an invitation to believe in magic or spirits, but as a celebration of humanity’s enduring sense of wonder.

For me, that sense of wonder ultimately points beyond folklore and toward the beauty of God’s creation.

As a Catholic, I believe that creation itself can inspire awe, gratitude, and contemplation. The beauty of light, flowers, colour, crystals, water, forests, and the night sky can turn our attention toward the Creator without those things themselves possessing supernatural powers.

Scripture tells us:

“God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.” 1 John 1:5

For Fairy Orbs, this verse is an inspiration rather than a claim that the objects themselves contain God’s light or power.

A Fairy Orb is not a vessel of divine energy, a source of healing, a talisman, or an object with supernatural properties. It does not contain God’s grace, transmit spiritual vibrations, provide protection, or bring about a particular outcome.

Instead, it is a handcrafted work of art that can serve as a tangible reminder of something meaningful.

For one person, that may be a prayer.

For another, a loved one.

For another, a Scripture passage, a moment of gratitude, a season of hope, or the beauty of God’s creation.

The meaning comes from the story and the intention behind the piece—not from a supernatural property contained within the glass.

Each Orb is lovingly handcrafted using elements inspired by the natural world, including flowers, colour, light, and other beautiful materials. These elements are chosen for their artistic and symbolic qualities and for the stories they can help us tell.

It is not itself a sacramental, and it does not replace prayer, the sacraments, Scripture, medical care, or the life of the Church.
